Entry 1
Entry 1.
I’ve always been intrigued by space. Living in a crowed city, growing up, you miss out on the joys of star gazing. However, at a young age, you make do with what you have. What intrigued me about space? Well, for me it was like looking into a canvas and trying to understand what it all meant. The fact that I didn’t and still don’t know what it all means, keeps the mystery intact.
The year is 2249 of the common era and from what I know space exploration started about 300 years prior. I often wonder what it would have been like to be alive back then. Apparently they had something called the Radio? It was a new invention that could let people hear someone talk through long distances. These distances were restricted to earth however. Interesting how this negligible invention was the height of technology back then.
Today marks the first day of college life and really the only thing of interest to me is the space exploration class. Everything else is just learning languages and cultures of all the other races in the known universe. I learnt from one of my late aunts that humans, only about a 100 years back realized that they aren’t alone in this universe. She used to talk about the first meeting as a major historic event. The expectations where high and it was legit scary. Honestly though, I think we brought the fear upon ourselves thanks to the sci-fi movies of old. Big scary monsters or short gray ones with big eyes all there to take over earth. Cracks me up all the time.
The reality was much less dramatic. They looked surprisingly similar to humans, the only difference was in the height and build of each race. Some big and strong and others not so much and all this because their bodies adapted to the unique conditions of each planet. However, this didn’t mean you couldn’t go to other planets for fear of not being able to adapt. Going to other planets came with certain perks, also misfortunes. You could either fly due to the drastic shift in gravity or end up on a planet that considers you a dwarf. The worst were the planets with high gravity, left you almost impossible to move. With so much diversity how could you have order among chaos? Simple… Rules and inventions.
Each planet had its own rule with regards to flight and show of strength and many other perks that came with going to other planets. No one was allowed to stay in a planet for more than 6 months because as we found out, that’s how much time it would take to have a Superman in our midst or well, you become an abomination to life. However, if someone did have to stay for more than 6 months, they were given exosuits that conditioned the user body to believe he/she was back home. This meant that the effects of planets environment would be completely cut off.
Well.., it’s almost time for class now, I take this course with hope that someday I’ll be able to achieve my goal of being a space explorer.
